Massage therapy is the practice of using touch to manipulate the soft-tissue muscles of the body. It is performed for a variety of reasons, including treating painful ailments, decompressing tired and overworked muscles, reducing stress, rehabilitating sports injuries, and promoting general health. According to the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment for massage therapists is expected to grow faster than average as more people learn about the benefits of massage therapy, and many states require formal training and licensure in order to practice massage therapy.*
Graduates of our Massage Therapy program in St. Louis are encouraged to take the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) certification exam. This credential is a nationally recognized voluntary certification that could enhance employment opportunities or income potential, and may be required to practice in a particular state.**
